Week 4-
Elements/Principles: Psychology of color and color matching
Topic: Mood in Imagery conveyed by color
Artist Focus: Van Gogh
Media (aka materials): Acrylic paint
Continuing in our experimentation of color, this week we will be using our primary paint colors to begin creating a mood or giving an emotional feeling to our artwork. First, select an image that you want to copy in paint that you feel has a certain “mood” or feeling associated with it because of its color. If you enjoyed working with the Impressionists and Post Impressionists last week, feel free to select another painting to work with from their work. After reviewing this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=YeI6Wqn4I78) from last week, try to decide how to change the overall mood of the painting by selecting a new color arrangement or color scheme. Here’s an example:
What are some adjectives you would use to describe the feel, mood, emotions in this painting by Van Gogh, called Starry Night?
How does the mood or emotion change when we change the colors of this painting?
Interesting, right? So for this week’s explore, you are going to just do some searching to find some images with a certain mood associated with color. They can be from Unsplash.com or a painting by an Impressionist/ Post Impressionist artist.
*Select 5 different images. Copy and paste them into a Google Slide. On each slide, please tell me what you are thinking the color conveys in terms of emotion AND identify which color arrangement or color scheme is being used by the artist. Submit a link to your Slide Show and be sure to give permission for me to view it.
