An electric go kart with the following specification was tested on a straight trackKart specifications:Vehicle Mass = 60 kg
Rider Mass = 70 kg
Cd*A = 0.25 m2 (the Cd*A value is with the rider sitting on the seat)
Rolling resistance of tires = 0.01
Wheelbase = 1200 mm
Track Width = 1000 mm
Coefficient of friction between the road and the tire = 1.2
The test revealed that the kart was capable of accelerating at 9 m/s2 at start. The maximum power output
at the wheels is 7kW. Assume the torque – speed characteristics of the motor as given in the following
graph
Determine the following:
1. The kart’s torque and power at the wheel across the operating speed range (0-80kmph).
2. The time taken for the kart to reach 60 Kmph on a straight road with a rider weighing 90 Kgs.
3. Find the minimum turning radius at a constant speed of 40 kmph without the kart sliding sideways or
overturning.
4. What should be the maximum height of center of gravity of the kart so that the kart slides sideways
instead of overturning.
Mention the assumptions (if any) you have made during the calculations for the above question.
Note: Any software (Excel, MATLAB, Python, etc.) can be used to solve the above problem however only
relevant graphs and calculations/formulae used should be submitted in pdf.
